John LaBarca, a beloved father and local radio legend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was formerly of Stratford but resided in Village Green, Bristol, CT, during his illness. Visiting hours will be held at Adzima Funeral Home in Stratford on June 4, while other services will remain private. 

Instead of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Known for his vibrant personality, John dedicated his life to various passions.

As a daily morning radio host on local stations in Long Island and CT, and as the creator and host of “John LaBarca’s Italian House Party,” he brought joy and celebrated heritage for over 50 years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of families.

John’s dedication extended beyond his radio career. He tirelessly supported veterans, participated in events like Swim across the Sound, and assisted various Italian organizations and community groups.

For many years, he took on the role of Santa Claus, spreading Christmas cheer to individuals at Southbury Training School.

Moreover, he organized numerous concerts and festivals honoring his Italian heritage, fostering his listeners’ love for cultural heritage.

Born on September 14, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, John was also a Purple Heart Veteran of the Vietnam War, proudly displaying his gratitude and patriotism throughout his life.

His immense generosity and contributions to the community will be cherished and remembered.

John LaBarca, born on September 14, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, had a loving family who supported him throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony (Tony) LaBarca, and his mother, Marie (Mamie) Curreri LaBarca, both of Brooklyn.

This legendary RJ was also predeceased by his brothers, Peter of Haverstraw, NY; Anthony of Howard Beach, NY; and Frank of Wantagh, LI.

Surviving John are his children, Elizabeth LaBarca (Nick Sharoh) of Stratford and Jack LaBarca (Alexandra LaBarca) of Southbury.

Labarca adored his granddaughter, Vita LaBarca, of Southbury. The mother of his children, Jennie LaBarca, resides in Southbury.

In addition, John is survived by his sister-in-law, Ida LaBarca, of Long Island, NY.

John is also remembered by his nieces Lisa LaBarca Cohn (Ira Cohn) of Long Island, NY; Carolyn LeClair of Virginia; and Kristina Sunseri of Garnerville, NY.

While not much information is available about John’s wife, it is clear that he had a close-knit and caring family who brought him joy and love throughout his life.
