Samantha Ann Quek, MBE, is a former field hockey player and current English television personality.

Quek was born to parents Marilyn and Albert Quek on October 18, 1988, in Liverpool at Mill Road Hospital.

When she was around a month old, the family moved from Coniston Street in Liverpool to the neighborhood of West Derby, and when she was five, they relocated to the Wirral Peninsula.

She spent a year at Hillside Primary School on the Wirral before transferring to Birkenhead High School and completing her secondary education at West Kirby’s Calday Grange Grammar School.

After that, she attended Leeds Metropolitan University and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science.

While attending Birkenhead High School, Quek picked up hockey and participated in tryouts for the Wirral under-12 team.

She was chosen to represent Wirral County at the Merseyside Youth Games, and the squad triumphed. When the team won again the following year, she was again chosen.

She later joined the Mini Panthers squad, coached by Peter Cartmel, the team’s founder and the person who initially chose her for the Wirral County team.
