In 2021, Serfass made a name for herself by placing second in the SE Finals Children’s Medal, an impressive feat considering she was one of the youngest competitors in the class. 

She also won the Hamel NHS 3’3 Medal in her first appearance in the class. 

Sadly, Serfass’ promising career was cut short by her untimely death, leaving her family, friends, and fellow equestrians heartbroken.

The tragic passing of Hannah Serfass, a talented and accomplished young rider from Webster, Florida, has left the equestrian community in mourning.

At Fox Lea Farm in Venice, Florida, Serfass was participating in a hunter/jumper competition when Quaxx 2, the horse she was riding, stumbled and fell, leading Serfass to fall off and sustain fatal injuries.

The United States Equestrian Federation said the incident had nothing to do with a jumping attempt.

The federation and Fox Lea Farm expressed sincere condolences to the Serfass family. Serfass’ identification was also confirmed by the Sumter County School District, which likewise expressed its sorrow over her demise.

The event has caused the federation to thoroughly investigate the situation and take action to reduce risk and improve safety in equestrian sports.

The catastrophe devastated the equestrian community, and numerous people praised Serfass’s talent, passion, and good nature.

According to the Sheriff’s Office investigation, Serfass was midway through a hunter/jumper competition course when the tragedy happened.

Hannah Serfass was undoubtedly adored and respected by many people, and her departure left a vacuum that would take time to be replaced. Her family and the equestrian world will continue to grieve her passing for a long time.

Statement of United States Equestrian Federation

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) released a statement regarding the death of Hannah Serfass, a 15-year-old equestrian who suffered a fatal accident during a Fox Lea Farm Spring Concours I competition in Venice, Florida.

The statement expressed the federation’s deepest sympathy and condolences to Serfass’s family, friends, and support team.

According to the USEF statement, Serfass was competing in an equitation class riding Quaxx 2, a 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding, when the horse tripped and suffered a rotational fall.

The fall was unrelated to a jumping effort, and the horse was uninjured in the accident.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded immediately, and Serfass was transported to Sarasota Memorial, where she was later pronounced dead.

The statement also noted that Serfass was a talented young rider known for her passion, natural ability, and work ethic.

The USEF, USHJA, and Fox Lea Farm team vowed to review the accident thoroughly to minimize risk and increase safety in equestrian sport.

The federation takes every accident seriously, and its commitment to ensuring the safety of equestrian athletes and their horses remains a top priority.
