Diane Ladd, now 87 years old, was diagnosed with a severe lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and was told that she might have only six months to live.

In 2018, she was misdiagnosed with pneumonia and given a prognosis of 6 months to a year to live after she inhaled “poison spray” from the farms surrounding her home.

The spray had constricted her esophagus, making it difficult to breathe. Her daughter, award-winning Actress Laura Dern, transferred her to another hospital where Ladd fully recovered.

The doctor told them that the one thing that could help her was getting her to walk to breathe deeper. So with Ladd on oxygen, the two began slowly walking together around Santa Monica.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and progressive lung disease that causes scarring of the lungs, making it difficult for the lungs to function properly.

She credits her recovery to her daughter’s love and support and her strong will and determination to overcome the illness.
