Amy Mihaljevic murder after kidnapping: one of the most significant unsolved cases for years. To date, the case remains active, and some new information has increased hopes of resolving the case.

Amy Renee Mihaljevic, a 10-year-old elementary school student from Ohio, was kidnapped and murdered in 1989.

Despite worldwide visibility and being featured on America’s Most Wanted, her case remains unsolved.

She was last seen alive at a shopping mall, where she had been enticed by an unidentified man claiming to be a friend of her mother’s. Three months later, her body was recovered in a rural area.

With tremendous money spent, the investigation into her kidnapping and murder has been one of the most extensive and expensive in Ohio history. The killer remains unknown.

However, it was stated in February 2021 that a person of interest in the case had emerged after a lady approached authorities in 2019 with possibly helpful information.

An unknown guy kidnapped Amy Mihaljevic from the Bay Square Shopping Center in Bay Village, Ohio, on October 27, 1989.

They called her and offered to buy a gift for her mother. After an enormous search, her body was discovered on February 8, 1990, in a field off County Road 1181, Ruggles Township, rural Ashland County, Ohio.

Amy had been asphyxiated, according to the postmortem results, and her attacker appeared to have abandoned her body shortly after the kidnapping.

Several pieces of evidence, including yellow/gold threads on her body and blood in her underpants, were discovered at the crime scene, implying that she was sexually abused or raped before her death.

According to the coroner, her last meal was a soy substance, probably an artificial chicken product or Chinese food.

The killer all stole Amy’s horse-riding boots, jeans rucksack, notebook with “Buick, Best in Class” written on the front clasp, and blue earrings shaped like horse heads.

DNA evidence was obtained from the crime scene by investigators. Some traces of evidences are still stored for future comparisons with suspects.

Amy Mihaljevic Murder Case: Where is the Killer?

Despite public and political pressure, Amy Mihaljevic’s murder and abduction case remains unsolved.

For years, authorities and officers, including the FBI, have undertaken extensive investigations and followed leads without identifying culprits.

Investigators determined in 2006 that several young girls had received phone calls similar to the one Mihaljevic received before her kidnapping.

In 2013, retired investigator Phil Torsney returned to work on the case, believing that the murder occurred in Ashland County.

The FBI has offered a $27,000 reward for information leading to the killer’s arrest and conviction.

In 2016, it was discovered that a blanket and curtain recovered near Mihaljevic’s body had hairs comparable to the Mihaljevics’ dog.

Investigators were looking into a possible link between identity thief Robert Ivan Nichols and the murder in 2018.

Authorities indicated in 2019 that they have exhaustively researched all suspects in the case and believe the killer would be on their list if identified.

Amy Mihaljevic Murder Case: New Updates on 2021

A significant lead was discovered after 32 years of the Amy Mihaljevic Murder Case.

A man was accused by his former girlfriend with whom he was dating at the time of the kidnapping and murder.

She claimed he was away from their home when Amy went missing, and he later called her to inquire if she had heard media reports about the kidnapping.

The suspected culprit was identified by two witnesses who saw the kidnapper during line-ups in May 2020.

The vehicle he was driving at the time matched the one used in the kidnapping, and matching carpet fibers were discovered on Amy’s body and in the car’s carpeting.

However, according to our sources, no further leads have been identified after that, and the police are still under investigation.
