Savran worked in radio in Pittsburgh for a while before spending the 1980s working at WTAE-TV for ten years.

Following that, Savran worked for AT&T Sports Network as a Pittsburgh Penguins analyst, even teaming up with Guy Junker, a former Action Sports reporter from Pittsburgh.

Savran presided over pre- and post-game ATTSN broadcasts for the Penguins and Pirates in recent years. Due to Stan’s adaptability and dedication, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inducted him.

Many prominent Pittsburghers, including Steelers President Art Rooney II, issued statements following the news of Stan’s death.

The statement said-” He was a gentleman in every manner, and he contributed much to Western Pennsylvania and our city. with his openness and thorough understanding of all regional and international sports.”

Stan Savran, who spent over 50 years in sports broadcasting capturing Pittsburgh’s transformation into the “City of Champions,” has passed away at 76.

Savran was a sports anchor for WTAE-TV in the 1980s. On Monday, the station reported Savran’s passing.

In addition, Savran, who resided in Upper St. Clair in the city’s southern suburbs, had been open about his recent fight with lung Cancer, but no official cause of death was revealed.

The Cleveland native, affectionately referred to as the “Godfather” of Pittsburgh sports, moved to his adopted hometown in 1976 and has never left.

In Pittsburgh, he started his career in radio before transitioning to TV and working part-time as a newspaper columnist.

Savran was most known for co-hosting the daily “SportsBeat” program on local TV with Guy Junker.

The series aired from 1991 to 2009 and was a must-see for supporters in a community passionate about its professional sports teams.

Today, the Pittsburgh sports broadcasting industry is mourning the loss of a stalwart. Stan Savran passed away on Monday after nearly 50 years of covering the city’s sporting teams.

On Tuesday morning, no funeral arrangements were immediately available. Savran was 76 years old.

In April, he announced on social media about amputating his right foot due to his persistent health issues. He had been battling lung Cancer.

The native of Cleveland moved to Pittsburgh in 1976, the year the Steelers won the first of their six championship games.
