Michael Chong’s parents are Cornelia de Haan and Paul Chong.

His Father, Paul Chong, was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 1952 to work as a doctor.

His mother, Cornelia de Haan, arrived in Canada from the Netherlands in 1960 and worked as a nurse.

Tragically, when Chong was six, his mother died in a car accident near Fergus, Ontario.

Following her death, his Father remarried Adriana, who lovingly raised Chong and his three siblings as her own.

However, in 1999, Chong’s Father also died in a car accident at the same intersection where his mother had tragically died 21 years earlier.

Despite the profound loss he experienced at a young age, Chong persevered and continued his political career with resilience and determination.

Michael Chong is married to Carrie Davidson, whom he met during their time at University.

Carrie has ancestral ties to both Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Her great-great-grandfather was William Whiteway, a prominent politician and three-time premier of Newfoundland in the late 19th century, known for his support of Confederation.

Another notable ancestor, Charles Peers Davidson, served as the chief justice of the Superior Court of Quebec in the early 1910s.

The couple resides on a 100-acre farm in Fergus, a picturesque town on the Grand River’s banks, approximately 85 kilometers from Toronto.

Together, they have three sons named William, Alistair, and Cameron.

With their shared life and family, Michael and Carrie have built a strong foundation while pursuing their respective careers and contributing to their community.

Michael Chong’s ethnicity is mixed, reflecting the heritage of his parents.

His Father, born in Hong Kong, brings Asian ancestry to his background, while his mother, originally from the Netherlands, contributes European heritage.
