According to Dallas police, a man was killed, and a woman was critically hurt after they stopped to assist a driver whose car was disabled in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday night.
Around 11 pm, two good samaritans, Michael Donnelly, 38, and Lyndsee Longoria, 26, stopped their cars on southbound U.S. Highway 67 at Interstate 35E to assist the driver of a Ford Explorer in getting his car off the road.
A 19-year-old man driving a Honda sedan rear-ended the duo as they assisted in moving the Explorer because he swerved to miss the lighted SUV.
The hospital received both casualties, and Donnelly was later declared dead there. Officials reported that Longoria’s condition was stable.
Michael Donnelly’s father, Rich Donnelly, said in a statement to NBC 5 on Monday that while his son’s passing was heartbreaking, he was honored to discover that he died saving a life.
Rich continued by saying that Michael now joins three of his seven siblings who led heroic lives.
