Soon, Beene moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at the University of Southern California to gather fashion design knowledge. From that moment on, this American man was destined to be a fashion designer.

Profession Career

As soon as Geoffrey finished his studies, he returned to New York in 1949. Soon he became Assistant Designer at the Seventh Avenue house of Harmony. In 1963, he founded Geoffrey Beene, Inc in the famous New York City. There he partnered with Teal Trains Leo Orlandi in a Seventh Avenue.

Beene’s first collection was featured on the cover of Vogue Magazine. That surely helped him a lot to garner attention. In 1970, this versatile designer used inexpensive fabrics such as sweatshirts and denim to make evening dresses. In an interview, Beene explained,

“The most important thing that I tell women is not to believe everything they read about fashion. The influence of Paris, for instance, is now minimal. Yet a lot is written about Paris fashion. A woman should be less concerned about Paris and more concerned about whether the dress she’s about to buy relates to the way she lives. Fashion is treated too much as news rather than what it is, what it does and how it performs.”

In 1971, Beene launched the Beene Bag line of women’s wear, where he creatively used the silhouetted used in the couture line. That was so cheap, which cost a fraction of his signature collections. By 1970 he had several numbers of licensing agreements for bed sheets, eyeglasses, and more. He decided to call it Grey Flannel and launched it in 1975.

Later on, this handsome developed a menswear business and received a license agreement with Van Heusen for shirts. People all over the world knew Geoffrey to be inventive and tireless when it comes to fashion designing.
