Early Days: Washington Academy and Tri-Cities High School

At Washington Academy, Erick Lawrence Jr. played a half-season of basketball before enrolling at Middle Tennessee, showcasing his talent and gaining attention from college teams.

In 2017-2018 for Tri-Cities High School, he averaged 22 points and ten rebounds per game, being named First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State for his performance.

In 2018, he even competed in the Georgia Athletics Coaches Association North All-Star Team.

2019-20: Impressive Performance as a Freshman

In his first year at Middle Tennessee, Erick Lawrence Jr. saw action in all 31 contests and contributed in many ways.

He was the Leader of MT’s first-year class with 5.9 points per game and added 2.9 rebounds per outing while shooting 40 percent from the field, 32 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the free throw line.

The basketball star was a catalyst in the win over Mars Hill (November 13) with 11 points and seven rebounds in the final 15 minutes. He had a career day with 27 points on 7-9 from 3-point range, six rebounds and three steals at UTSA (February 1).

With such impressive performances, Erick Lawrence Jr. set himself up nicely for his sophomore year.

2022-23: Junior Year Highlights

Erick Lawrence Jr. started his junior year strong, scoring 16 points in an 81-46 win over Rice (11/15). He then scored a season-high 21 points against Chattanooga (12/15).

However, his best highlight of the year was when he made SportsCenter’s top 10 plays with a windmill dunk against Murray State (12/21), showing off his athleticism.

On New Year’s Eve, Erick Lawrence Jr. recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 13 points against WKU (12/31), tying his best with four assists.

Following this, he led the team with 20 points and six rebounds, tying the game with a three-point play with 13 seconds left at UTSA (1/5).

Erick also had an excellent performance at Rice, where he tied his season high with 21 points to lead a comeback victory (1/11/23), and he came up with a career-best four steals in a win at L.A. Tech (1/21).

Overall, Erick Lawrence Jr. had impressive stats for his junior year, averaging 10.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and leading the Blue Raiders with 47 steals.

His record of 37 games started also set a new program record along with DeAndre Dishman and Donovan Sims.

2020-21: Back From Injury and Impressive Performances

Before his junior year, Erick Lawrence Jr. also had an impressive sophomore year.

After competing in 20 games and earning three starts, he pulled a season-best four rebounds and scored 8 points in a C-USA opening series split at FIU.

He started his first career in game one against Western Kentucky (1/23/21) and scored a season-high 14 points.

However, he then suffered a foot injury in practice while preparing for the home game against UAB (1/28/21).

Larence returned to action in game two against Charlotte (2/6/21) and was effective off the offensive end with 10 points and a career-high four assists in game one at Marshall (2/12/21).

He made his third start of the season in the regular season finale at Florida Atlantic (3/5/21).

With an average of 5.1 points per game on 35 percent shooting from the field, 2.9 rebounds per game, and 32.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc, Erick Lawrence Jr. shined for the Blue Raiders throughout the season despite this injury.
