In 1919, he opened his boutique in San Sebastian, which later expanded to Barcelona and Madrid. Balenciaga was regarded as one of the most influential fashion designers of the World War II years. His designs were famous among the Spanish royal family and aristocracy. However, the Spanish Civil War forced him to stop working, and eventually, this designer moved to Paris.
